Community Engagement
Cargill invests in local communities through economic development, partnerships and giving combined with the volunteer efforts of our employees. Cargill provides corporate support to select national and global nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that serve communities in which we have a business presence. We support partners working within our focus areas of food security, nutrition, and sustainability. And, our businesses and facilities sponsor employee-led groups, called Cargill Cares Councils, which support civic and non-profit organizations in their local communities.
Cargill Cares Councils seek to recognize issues important to our communities; build effective relationships with community leaders; and work to help improve living standards and promote vibrant, stable communities.
Food Security and Nutrition
- Fortifying edible oil: Food fortification is one of the most effective ways to deliver micronutrient to large population groups. Edible oils are consumed by 99% of households nationwide, and we fortify all of our refined edible oils produced in India with the essential vitamins A and D. These micro-nutrients are required for proper growth, development and health. All fortification cost are absorbed by us and not passed on to consumers. We reach out to 100 million people with our fortified oils.
- Fighting malnutrition through capacity building: Cargill and CARE are committed to fight malnutrition amongst children and women of Madhya Pradesh through Madhya Pradesh Nutrition Program. The project has reached out to one million people, significantly improving nutrition for child and lactating women through capacity building initiatives, creation of communication materials and strengthening governance structure in the three most backward districts of the state.

Enriching Communities
Creating access to quality education in Gurgaon and Andhra Pradesh
- Pragati Vatika School: Rapid urbanization has turned Gurgaon into a “Millennium City” but only for the affluent. Migrant laborers, construction workers and the housekeeping staff who have no facilities support this rapid growth silently. Pragati Vatika School provides for fulfilling the learning dreams of the children of this lesser-privileged community. We support the Pragati Vatika School in Gurgaon by taking care of all their yearly operational expenses (education, nutrition, staff etc.). The school caters to the educational, nutritional and overall developmental needs of children of daily wage laborers.
- Agrasar Bachpan Learning Centre: We partnered with Agrasar, a non-profit organization working in the field of human capital development and social security of the disadvantaged communities in India, and launched a program to provide structured learning to underprivileged children aged 4-14 in a Gurgaon village that is home to more than 20,000 migrant workers. Sixty children are being enrolled in the first three months at the Agrasar Bachpan learning centre. The program is designed to follow a ‘child-centric approach,’ going beyond academic learning to nurture the all-round development and growth of underprivileged children.
- Rural Development Foundation: Every child has the right to education and everyone has the duty to give back to the society. In this background, we partner with Rural Development Foundation (RDF), an NGO that runs five schools and one junior college in the rural areas of Andhra Pradesh, in their mission to make education available for rural underprivileged girls and boys, by supporting children with educational expenses of the students.
