Kutch Livelihood and Education Advancement Program (K-LEAP)

This is a long term project funded by Cargill and managed by CARE India (India arm of the CARE International). Cargill and CARE share a global relationship that has projects in Africa, Central and South America and India. The overall goal of the five-year Supporting Kutch Livelihood and Education Advancement Program is “to facilitate sustainable livelihood options and improving the quality and accessibility of primary education to marginalized communities in Kutch, India. The project includes two primary components: economic development for rural households and education improvements for primary-school-age children.
Education:

  1. Improving the learning outcome for 22,150 children aged between 6-16 year in 111 public elementary schools
  2. Serving 3,000 girls by providing the technical support to 52 government-supported learning centers of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBVs)
  3. Technical support to 5 Alternate Learning Centers (ALCs) for adolescent girls, these are the girls from the extremely marginalized fishing communities and do not have even the basic amenitie

Economic Developments/ Livelihood: 

These programs spans over 205 villages and with an impact over approx. 9,000 households; helping them to improve their economic conditions by increasing their income up to 400%.

  1. Developing sustainable livelihood options for rural families.
  2. Launching sustainable institutions that will support the small farmers.
  3. Enhancing women’s role in entrepreneurship.
  4. Organizing the target communities in village level management institutions
